What's Included
Four services under one restaining job.
Most restaining projects involve more than one of these. We assess your stairs and floors first and tell you exactly which apply before any work begins.
01
Colour Changes
Going darker, lighter or into a completely different tone. We sand back the existing stain and apply your chosen colour to the bare wood. The result is a clean, even finish across every tread. Getting the colour right before the work starts is the whole job.
02
Matching Hardwood Floors
New floors installed and now the stairs look out of place. We bring stain samples to your home so you can compare options in your own lighting before we touch anything. Getting the match right before the work starts is the whole job.
03
Updating Dated Finishes
Orange oak from the nineties, yellowed polyurethane, uneven pigment from years of wear. A restain strips the old finish back and replaces it with something that looks like it belongs in the house you have now.
04
Handrail and Newel Staining
When the treads change colour the handrail and newel posts often need to follow. We stain both as part of the same project so the finished staircase reads as one cohesive piece rather than a mix of old and new.

No deposit to get a number, and no obligation once you have one.
Step 01
Send us your photos
Send a few photos of your stairs and we come back the same day with an honest read on whether refinishing is the right call, or whether capping or replacement makes more sense. No obligation, no sales call.
Step 02
In home assessment
Lucky visits your home, checks the tread thickness, condition of the wood, any damage that needs repairing, and brings stain samples so you can see the finish against your floors. Free, and usually under an hour.
Step 03
Written fixed quote
Materials, labour, stain colour, finish and timeline, all in writing before work begins. No surprises on the day, no adjustments after the fact. The number we quote is the number you pay.
Common Questions
Questions about stair restaining.
If your question is not here, call or send a photo and we will give you a straight answer.
Can my stairs be restained a different colour?
Yes, in most cases. If your existing treads are solid hardwood such as oak or maple with enough thickness remaining to sand, the existing stain can be removed and a new colour applied. Going darker is generally more predictable than going lighter. We assess your treads during the in-home visit and tell you what is realistic before any work is agreed.
Can you match my stairs to my new hardwood floors?
This is one of the most common restaining jobs we do. We bring stain samples to your home so you can compare options directly against your floors in your own lighting before we commit to anything. An exact match depends on the wood species and age of both surfaces, but we get as close as possible and show you the result first.
Do the handrails and newel posts get restained too?
When treads change colour the handrail and newel posts often need to follow or the finished staircase looks mismatched. We stain both as part of the same project where the wood species allows it. We assess the handrail and posts during the in-home visit and include them in the written quote.
How long does stair restaining take?
Most restaining projects take two to three days including drying time between coats. The stairs need to be avoided while the finish cures. We confirm the exact timeline in the written quote before work begins and schedule around your household.
How much does stair restaining cost in Brampton?
Stair restaining in Brampton is priced per project based on the number of treads, the colour change required, any repairs needed, and whether handrails or newel posts are included. We provide a written fixed quote after the in-home assessment. The number we quote is the number you pay.
